HSDC has continued its commitment to student wellbeing, leadership development and physical activity through the AoC Sport Ambassador Programme, which forms part of the College’s Be Active Wellbeing campaign.

On Thursday 26 March, students at HSDC’s Havant Campus took part in a vibrant volleyball lunchtime session, arranged by Yasmeen Amer, Wellbeing Sports Ambassador. This was delivered as part of the Student Sport Leadership Programme, with support from AoC Sport.
As a student leader within the AoC Sport Ambassador Programme, Yasmeen has played a key role in supporting the Be Active campaign, promoting the benefits of physical activity to her peers.
For this session, Yasmeen invited Portsmouth Phoenix Volleyball Club onto campus, who delivered a training session focusing on the skills needed to be a successful volleyball player. After their training, students were invited to participate in a number of intense matches, giving them a chance to apply their learning.
Alongside these physical activities, HSDC welcomed Off The Record, a local mental health charity, to campus, who spoke to students about the mental health benefits of sport and physical activity. Their representative highlighted the positive impact that movement and routines can have on mental wellbeing, whilst also promoting the charity’s wider support services available to young people.

Matt Webber, AoC Policy and Projects Officer, also attended the session to see the Ambassadorship campaign in action, and was extremely impressed with the positive impact that Yasmeen has made at HSDC. Speaking about being an Ambassador at the College, Yasmeen said:
“I’m excited to make a real difference by running volleyball sessions that bring students together, promote physical and mental wellbeing, and make sport more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”
Everybody at HSDC is incredibly proud of Yasmeen’s tireless efforts to make physical activity a cornerstone of the College’s wellbeing strategy.
