Havant SU President Elected To Make a Real Difference

June 2, 2026

HSDC is proud to announce that Thomas Menage, a first-year A Level student studying Politics and History, has been elected as the new President of the Havant Student Union.

The election period saw students engage enthusiastically with the democratic process, with campaigning taking place between 23-27 February to give candidates the opportunity to share their priorities, speak to peers and set out their vision for student representation.

Thomas’ journey to the presidency is shaped by a genuine and first-hand understanding of life at HSDC. Prior to beginning his A Level studies at Havant, Thomas studied Catering at HSDC South Downs, giving him a strong appreciation of the diverse pathways students can take through Further Education and the importance of ensuring that all voices are adequately represented.

When asked what made him decide to run for President, Thomas said:

“Experiencing learning at both Havant and South Downs has really allowed me to see the changes that should be brought into life at the College.”

Speaking about his key campaign promises and priorities as President, Thomas had a genuine focus on student safety and mobility:

“Accessibility for students with mobility issues is very important to me, it’s key that everyone at the College is catered for. Our general goal is to get more learner feedback, allowing the student body to have their voices heard.”

Thomas’ passion for student life and wellbeing stems from an acute awareness of social issues. When asked what he believed to be the number one issue facing young people in 2026, Thomas said:

“Jobs. Being able to find a job in 2026 that matches your hours and flexibility is so important. HSDC plays a crucial role in preparing young people for the workplace, because the College provides learners with an invaluable set of skills, along with core life lessons that really are transferable.”

Thomas’ clear interest in representation, accountability and participation stand at the heart of the values that HSDC strives to instil in all students at the College.

HSDC would like to congratulate Thomas on his election victory and looks forward to working with him over the next academic year to foster a more welcoming, inclusive and aspirational student experience for all.
