Students from HSDC South Downs’ Travel & Tourism course have returned from an extraordinary educational visit to Los Angeles, gaining first-hand insight into one of the world’s most iconic global tourism destinations.

Disneyland California, located in LA, was a real highlight of the trip.
The carefully curated trip, designed to enrich students’ learning beyond the classroom, provided a unique opportunity to explore the culture, infrastructure and victory of LA whilst building lasting memories and a professional understanding of the industry.
Students touched down in California ready to immerse themselves in a packed itinerary that showcased the breadth of the city’s tourism offer. Particular highlights included visits to Universal Studios, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Santa Monica Pier. Another memorable moment saw students step inside the famed Beverly Wilshire Hotel, synonymous with the film Pretty Woman.
Beyond the itinerary’s headline attractions, the visit played a crucial role in bringing HSDC’s Travel and Tourism curriculum to life. Students were able to experience, analyse and reflect on real-world tourism operations, customer service environments and destination branding – elements that are crucial to their studies.

Target was a hit with the students!
Further enriching their understanding of destination appeal and visitor experience, students were able to explore LA’s Hollywood Hills, enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of The Original Farmers Market and embraced the retail culture of the city, with Target quickly becoming a firm favourite!
