Alton College’s engineering department is proud to celebrate the exceptional achievements of student Nathan Lintott, a prime example of how ambition, opportunity and technical excellence have all come together to produce fantastic results.
After joining Alton College from Amery Hill School, Nathan began the T Level in Engineering with an interest in the subject, but like many new students, without a fixed career path. What he found at the College was the opportunity to explore, experiment and raise his ambitions through a curriculum designed to explore different facets of engineering.
Nathan said:
“If you’re unsure about the exact path you want to take in engineering, this course at Alton is for you! It’s so helpful to explore a wide range of different aspects of the industry.”
This flexibility, combined with expert teaching and structured guidance, reflects HSDC’s commitment to helping every student progress with confidence and clarity into their future.
Central to Nathan’s engineering journey at Alton has been access to the College’s industry-standard engineering workshop, located in the fantastic Sonardyne Centre. Here, students can learn both the theoretical and practical sides of engineering, central to securing employability skills for the future.
Speaking about this hands-on approach, Nathan said:
“My favourite part of college has been using the workshop to create functional designs, it’s been great to take my ideas from a theoretical concept all the way to a working prototype.”
This hands-on approach sets Alton College apart, with the T Level programme being designed with employer relevance specifically to ensure that students develop the technical competencies demanded by industry. From precision equipment to project-based learning, the student experience at Alton College reflects genuine engineering practice, equipping learners with the skills and mindset to thrive in the workplace.

Nathan recently won Student of the Year for Engineering at Alton College.
A standout feature of Nathan’s time on the T Level was his industry placement, allowing him to work alongside professional engineers and providing him with valuable insight into how engineering operates beyond the classroom:
“This placement has given me the scope to get real world experience, as well as being able to develop practical abilities and identify which area of engineering I am most passionate about.”
Recently, Nathan won the highly prestigious Student of the Year Award for Engineering at Alton College, a testament to his hard work throughout the T Level.
With his T Level opening up multiple pathways, including employment, apprenticeships and higher education, Nathan is now well-positioned to take his next steps. His journey shows how the College nurtures strong outcomes and ambition in every learner, ensuring that they can step confidently into their futures.
