There were smiles, celebrations and plenty of proud moments at HSDC Havant Campus today as students received their results and prepared for the next stage of their journeys.
This year’s cohort will progress to leading universities, degree apprenticeships and specialist career pathways, reflecting the diverse ambitions and achievements of students across the campus. Throughout their studies, students have benefited from dedicated teaching, enrichment opportunities and a supportive college community, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed.
Students Progressing to Higher Education
Several students are heading to leading universities to continue their studies.
Rebecca Marle
Rebecca Marle, who studied English Literature, Sociology, Psychology and EPQ, achieved an exceptional A*, A*, A and A* in EPQ. Reflecting on her time at college, Rebecca said her favourite part was “meeting so many great people, I feel like I’ve made friends for life.” She also praised the support she received through revision sessions and dedicated teachers. Rebecca is now progressing to Cardiff University to study Psychology with Professional Placement. Her advice for new students is simple: “Just keep at it!”
James Miles
James Miles, who studied Physics and Maths, achieved A and A grades. Reflecting on his time at Havant, James said: “The people were always friendly, and learning my chosen subjects” were the aspects of college he enjoyed most. He credited both his teachers and Learning Support Assistants for helping him succeed, explaining that staff were always available to answer questions and provide support throughout his studies. James is now progressing to Kent University to study Physics. His advice to future students is: “Don’t be afraid to ask questions no matter how silly you might think they are.”
Megan Payne
Megan Payne, who studied Politics and Sociology, achieved B & A* grades. Megan enjoyed exploring a wide range of topics within her subjects and highlighted the support available through teachers, Academic Learning Support and Health & Wellbeing services. She is now progressing to the University of Sussex to study Politics with Sociology and hopes to continue raising autism awareness through social media. Megan’s message to future students is: “Achieving anything is possible, don’t let anything stop you from achieving.”
Rhys Andrews
Rhys Andrews, who studied Maths, Further Maths and Physics, achieved an impressive A*, A and A*. Rhys said the friendships he made during college were the highlight of his experience and credited the college with introducing him to lifelong friends. He is now progressing to the University of Surrey to study Physics. His advice to future students is: “Don’t quit – balance work with pleasure and eat well.”
Degree Apprenticeships and Specialist Pathways
Other students are heading straight into industry through apprenticeships and specialist courses.
Monty Goodfellow
Monty Goodfellow, who studied Accounting, Economics, Mathematics and EPQ, achieved an outstanding A, A*, A, A*. Albert said the teaching quality and engagement of staff had a major impact on his success, praising teachers for being approachable and building strong relationships with students. He is now progressing to a Degree Apprenticeship in Retail and Business Management with Morrisons, combining work and study as he begins his career. Albert’s advice to future students is: “Work hard for the two years consistently, little and often is much better than a rush job.”
Jack Boulton
Jack Boulton, who studied Criminology, Drama and Psychology, achieved B, C and D grades and is taking the next step in his creative journey by progressing to a Level 4 Performance course at HSDC South Downs. Jack said his favourite part of college was getting to know his drama group and credited the support of his Criminology teacher for helping him achieve his results. His advice to students starting college is: “Don’t overbook yourself.”
Connie Jones
Connie Jones, who studied Geography, English Literature, Classics and EPQ, achieved B, B, B and an A* in EPQ. Connie said her favourite part of college was “making lots of new friends and memories that I’ll treasure for a long time” and praised opportunities beyond the classroom, including educational trips that helped students build lasting friendships. She is now progressing into Garden and Landscape Design with the Eden Project, an exciting and distinctive pathway. Her advice to future students is: “Throw yourself into the experience and it’ll surprise you in many ways.”
