Alton College Politics Students Welcome Parliamentary Candidate Dominic Martin

November 3, 2026

Alton College Politics students recently welcomed Dominic Martin, parliamentary candidate for East Hampshire, for an insightful and engaging discussion about the world of politics and the issues shaping the future of the country.

The visit, which took place on 23 October, gave A-Level Politics students a valuable opportunity to meet with a parliamentary candidate and explore some of the key topics they have been studying in the classroom.

Students asked a wide range of thoughtful questions, covering parliamentary representation, votes at 16 and the ongoing debate surrounding electoral reform. The discussion encouraged students to consider different political perspectives, develop their understanding of the democratic process and reflect on how young people can make their voices heard.

The visit also highlighted the growing importance of engaging younger generations in politics, particularly as many students approach the age at which they will be eligible to vote.

Reflecting on his visit, Dominic Martin said:

“It was a privilege to visit Alton College to discuss politics with some of their brilliant A-Level students.

“It’s great to see the growth in interest in studying politics from young people. With 16- and 17-year-olds likely to be able to vote at the next election, it’s critical political parties engage with them to make sure their voices are heard.”

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to connect their academic studies with real-world politics, ask challenging questions and gain a greater insight into the role of parliamentary candidates.

Alton College would like to thank Dominic Martin for taking the time to visit and engage with our students. Opportunities like this help bring learning to life and encourage the next generation to take an active interest in the political issues that will shape their future.
