GCSE Courses for Full Time Students
If you’re a full time student who has just left school and is preparing for college, we give you the opportunity to improve on your existing grades, by teaching you GCSE maths and/or English as part of your main study programme.
GCSE Courses for Adult Learners
We also have GCSE courses for adult learners at our Alton, Havant and South Downs campuses, for those who wish to gain nationally-recognised English and Mathematics qualifications. Adult GCSE courses are taught at locations around Hampshire, available both in the daytime and as evening courses – helping you fit studying around your other commitments. To enrol on our GCSE Adult Learning courses you must be aged 18 years or over.

| What support is available if I’m retaking a GCSE? | If you did not achieve a grade 4 (C) in GCSE English or Mathematics, HSDC offers GCSE courses to help you improve your grade and gain these essential qualifications. For full-time students joining college after leaving school, GCSE English and/or Maths can be studied as part of your main study programme, helping you work towards achieving the required grade. |
| Can I study GCSEs online? | GCSE courses for adult learners are available in person at Alton College and Havant campus, with classes offered during the day and in the evening to help fit around other commitments. Due to the specialist teaching required, GCSE courses at HSDC are not able to be taught remotely or online. |
| Can I study GCSEs as an adult? | Yes. HSDC offers GCSE English, Maths and Biology courses for adult learners who want to gain nationally recognised qualifications. Adult GCSE courses are available at Alton College and Havant campus, with both daytime and evening classes available. To enrol on an adult GCSE course, you must be aged 18 or over. |
| How much do GCSE Biology, English and Maths courses cost? | If you did not achieve an A*–C or grade 4 or above (grading change in 2017) the first time round or have not had the opportunity to study for GCSEs before, then we can help. Many people may be eligible for government funding, meaning that you will not pay for your course. |
| Can I choose different types of English GCSEs (e.g., language or literature)? | No. There is only one English GCSE course available, and it is Language-based. |
