Trips and tours are fun and can help you in your studies, while travel abroad can be a real eye-opener. Maybe you’ll learn something new from seeing another lifestyle, brush up on your language skills or have one of those light-bulb moments…
What trips and travel can I try at Alton?
Our students travel far and wide as part of their courses and our trips vary from year to year. Just to give you an idea, our UK trips have included visits to:
- concerts
- theatres
- art galleries
- companies
- the Houses of Parliament
- Survival in the wilderness (Public Services)
And here are some of the places we’ve been to abroad:
- China (Photography)

- South Africa (Geography)
- First World War battlefields (English)
- Austria – skiing (Open to all students)
- Paris – a cultural tour (Open to all students)
- Cuba – for a marine biology experience

- as well as Madagascar, Nepal, Peru, Tanzania, Bolivia, Central America, India and the Himalayas

We know that a well-rounded learning experience includes an understanding of what lies beyond our gates. That’s why we work hard to provide a wealth of field trip and travel opportunities every year.
Most trips are in the UK. However, some will take you abroad to engage with things we simply don’t get to experience here at home. This international dimension is all part of our wider global outlook that seeks to give you with a greater awareness of our global situation.

In some curriculum areas there is the opportunity to take part in regional, national and international competitions which promote excellence in the field of skills and competence development.
The competitions are held periodically, competitors represent the best of their peers and demonstrate technical abilities both individually and collectively to execute specific tasks for which they study and/or perform in their workplace.
