HSDC Celebrates Green Careers Week

November 4, 2025

This year, National Green Careers Week takes place from Monday 3 November to Friday 8 November. This is an annual week of celebration and workshops used to promote opportunities for young people to have careers that make a real difference.

At HSDC, we are proud to celebrate this year’s National Green Careers Week, marking the occasion with a series of workshops and guest speakers.

Representatives from the Solent Seascape Project visited Havant Campus, providing HSDC’s students with insights about their work. The Solent Seascape Project has a long-term aim to protect and restore the dynamic network of habitats along the Solent, bringing the ecosystem back from the brink of degradation.

As one of the most heavily used waterways in Europe, the Solent is under constant pressure, making the Seascape Project a vital way to protect the vast array of wildlife that calls it home. The Project spoke to HSDC Environmental Science students, enthusing them about the importance of marine habitats and encouraging them to volunteer. They even brought a box of marine objects for them all to handle.

The University of Winchester held a successful “Creative Green Write Session”, challenging students to explore the best ways to approach environmental themes in poetry. The session focused on developing students’ analytical techniques through the lens of Zaffar Kunial’s collection, ‘England’s Green’.

Marking Green Careers Week is just one of the many ways in which HSDC has worked to provide students with green skills development. From the introduction of Electric Vehicles for the South Downs automotive courses to working towards a 2040 Net Zero target, HSDC’s commitment to the environment is clear across all aspects of life at the College.

Careers Manager Kate Creswick said:

“HSDC students are eager for positive change, demonstrating an impressive commitment to sustainable values. We use Green Careers Week to inspire and equip them further. By working with leading employers and universities, we show them exactly how they can turn those values into impactful, rewarding careers. We are thankful to our excellent partners for making this possible.”
