Getting Here – South Downs Campus

Is South Downs Campus hard to get to? Not at all!

Students that attend South Downs Campus are entitled to order and pay for a ‘student bus pass’ on either the Stagecoach or First Bus app (regardless of household income) which may make travelling to college cheaper. Student bus passes can be used all day, every day (including weekends) within the area of the ticket.

Although there isn’t a train station within walking distance from South Downs Campus, we’ve also worked with train providers to get you a reduced rate for train travel. If you want to discuss travelling by train, please contact us for a chat.

For students living in a household that receives an income related benefit, the college may be able to help with the cost of a bus or train pass.

Listed below is information on some of the easiest ways to get to South Downs Campus, but if you have any questions please contact travelandsupport@hsdc.ac.uk.

Please note that there is no obligation to purchase a subsidised bus or train pass.

Students can use the Stagecoach 700 service to Havant Bus Station and change to 37/39 to arrive directly outside South Downs Campus.

HSDC is running a morning bus service (the SD7) that will run through Copnor. This is a direct route and will drop students off right outside the College gates. This journey will take approximately 20 minutes.

The First Group Service 7C has two direct journeys which take around 10 minutes from Hilsea Lido.

A frequent alternative route is the First Group Service 7 which runs every 12 minutes to Crookhorn Precinct (a short walk from the College).

The First Group Service 7 takes approximately eight minutes from Cosham to the Crookhorn Precinct (a short walk from South Downs Campus).

Alternatively, the Stagecoach number 23 runs from Farlington to Havant Bus Station every 10 minutes. You can then take the number 37 directly to the campus. In total, this journey takes 20 minutes.

Students will need to use the Stagecoach 700 service to Havant Bus Station, then change at Havant to the Stagecoach 37/39 to South Downs Campus.

The First Group services SD4 and SD5 are direct routes which take 30 minutes from Fareham to South Downs Campus.

There are a number of other frequent routes throughout the day. However, these routes require changing at Cosham. These buses run to the Crookhorn Precinct (a short walk from the College).

The Stagecoach service 37 takes nine minutes from Havant Bus Station to South Downs Campus.

Alternatively the Stagecoach service 39 runs from Havant and Leigh Park every 12 minutes.

In order to get to our South Downs Campus you will need to take two buses. The first is the Stagecoach number 30 or 31 which will take you to the Havant Bus Station. From here, catch the Stagecoach 37 or 39 directly to South Downs Campus.

The Stagecoach service 37 runs from Horndean directly to South Downs Campus. This bus runs once an hour and takes around 38 minutes.

The First Bus number 8 is a more regular service running every 15 minutes. However, students will need to change to the First Bus number 7 bus which will take them from the Waterlooville Precinct to the Crookhorn Precinct (a short walk from South Downs Campus).

The direct College bus (Stagecoach Service 737) runs once in the morning and once in the afternoon. This is a direct bus route from Petersfield to South Downs Campus, which takes 25 minutes.

Alternatively, the Stagecoach Service 37 runs from Petersfield every hour, this journey takes around one hour.

The First Bus number 3 runs from Paulsgrove to Cosham every 10 minutes. From Cosham, you will need to catch First Bus number 7 to Crookhorn Precinct (a short walk from our South Downs Campus). In total this bus journey is just under 25 minutes.

The First Bus services SD4 and SD5 run directly from Porchester to South Downs Campus. This journey takes just under half an hour.

Alternatively, the regular First Bus number 7 runs from Cosham to Crookhorn Precinct (a short walk from South Downs Campus).

Departing from South Parade Pier the First Group service SD7 stops at a number of locations in Portsmouth. This is a 40 minute direct route to our South Downs Campus.

There are many frequent routes (every 12 minutes) to Crookhorn Precinct (a short walk from South Downs Campus). This is the First Group service 7 which runs from Portsmouth City Centre, Hilsea, North End and Cosham.

Students will need to use the Stagecoach 700 bus service to Havant Bus Station, then change at Havant to the Stagecoach 37/39 to South Downs Campus.

South Downs Campus is within walking distance from areas such as Crookhorn, Purbrook and Widley.

Students travelling from Hambledon or Denmead will need to use Stagecoach D1/D2 services and change at Waterlooville Precinct to the number 37 or 39. These services run frequently throughout the day.

From other areas of Waterlooville such as Cowplain or Horndean, there are frequent bus services including the Stagecoach 37 & 39 services, and First Group services 7 & 8.
