Students at Alton College benefit from two Centres of Excellence – A Level Centre of Excellence and Technical Centre of Excellence.
In 2024, Alton College had an incredible 98% pass rate for A Levels. Almost half of all students at Alton achieved A*- B, with 40% of students on the Further Maths A Level achieving either A or A*! English Literature also had considerable success, with 70% of students achieving A*- B.
Principal and CEO Mike Gaston spoke about this impressive set of results, saying:
“We are incredibly proud of our student’s amazing achievements this year – their hard work, resilience and determination has certainly paid off, and we are delighted to see them succeed!”
Dwayne Nobleza on Results Day at Alton.
Dwayne Nobleza achieved an A* in Mathematics, B in Further Mathematics, A in Physics and B in Chemistry. These grades allowed Dwayne to secure a place at Imperial College London where he has gone on to studying Material Science & Engineering. Speaking about the results, Dwayne said:
“Alton College has helped me secure an offer from my dream university! My advice to anyone studying A Levels at Alton is to have fun, put the work in, trust the process and try and make revising fun – this really helps!”
Alton College has had a considerable amount of investment in its Technical Centre of Excellence, including a recent £1.25m supported by the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership to open Gaming & Creative Digital Studios in the Stevens building.
With a wide range of course provision across both Vocational subjects and T Levels, Alton College has maintained its commitment to ensuring that its students are ready for the future. 2024 saw another round of excellent results for technical subjects at Alton, highlighting this commitment.
Alton College prides itself on its dedication to the local community. Check out some of the amazing stories of how this dedication has been showing itself recently:
The first year T Level Engineering students wearing fake moustaches.
A group of 16 first year T Level Engineering students at Alton grew out their moustaches to raise money for the Alton College Food Bank, an organisation established to provide students with support if they are struggling with essential items such as food, deodorant and toothpaste.
The students raised £266.10 in total, and were joined by their lecturer, Malcolm Buchanan, who also grew a moustache in solidarity with the first years.
The Alton College sports students involved in the football tournament.
10 students on the Extended Diploma in Sport volunteered to organise a football tournament to local primary schools. This was hosted at The Butts Primary School, with each student being given a different school to look after, as well as assisting with the refereeing of the games.
These Sports students were able to benefit from real-world sports management experience whilst also helping local schools enrich the learning of their pupils!
Students preparing to race each other in Mario Kart Wii at Winterfest.
Just before the Christmas break, a group of students on the Extended Diploma in Esports hosted Winterfest, a charity event that raised almost £100 for Safe In Our World, an institution that promotes mental health awareness in the gaming industry.
From time trials on Mario Kart to 1v1s on League of Legends, the event had activities for everyone and was a resounding success! It provided great event management experience for the students and raised a lot of money for a fantastic cause.
