Which Sport course is right for me?

Here at HSDC we absolutely love sport and we know that you do too! That’s why we offer a range of truly excellent ways to study sport plus ways to simply play sport during your time with us.

But with so many options to choose from, you might need a little help deciding what is right for you, therefore we have listed the courses on offer below by campus. If you want to study A Levels, then we have two sport options for you to add into your course programme at Havant.

If you want to focus on one subject then choosing one of our four Vocational sport courses would be the better choice for you on our South Downs Campus.

And more good news – whichever of the options you choose, you will be taught by excellent teachers with fantastic knowledge and expertise who will support you with every aspect of your studies and progression beyond college.

Whether you want to study sport with us or not, we also have a superb array of sports opportunities for you to get involved with as part of our Be Active programme. You don’t need to be studying a sports course to join these as students from across a wide range of courses who simply want to have fun and get involved with a sport they enjoy are welcome – and that is a great part of college too! Find out more here.

If you are keen on studying A Levels and want to be a student at our Havant Campus then we have two options for you: A Level PE and BTEC Sports Coaching and Development.

A Level PE –  you’ll study a great deal of theory around sport: Applied Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Skill Acquisition, Sport Psychology and Sport in Society. The course is significantly weighted towards written responses, with 70% final examination, 15% practical assessment and 15% NEA (coursework).

BTEC Sports Coaching and Development – you’ll study some more practical, applied units: Anatomy and Physiology, Developing Coaching and Leadership Skills, Sport Psychology, Nutrition and Planning and Leading a Sports Event. The course has a greater emphasis on coursework, which comprises 60% of the final assessment.

Studying one of these courses as part of your three subjects is a good choice if you have enjoyed studying sport at school, would like to learn more, and might be thinking about a career in Teaching, Sports Psychology, Sports Therapy or Sports Science after completing a relevant degree at university.
